A Career in Ethical Hacking

Ethical hacking is one of the information technology careers that a lot of people don’t consider. As such, the people who enter this field are going to have a distinct advantage. Lots of information technology careers require a great deal of training and expensive education. Ethical hacking training can be completed in under a year in many cases, and the shortest track is going to cost people around six hundred dollars. Compared to the years of study and tens of thousands of dollars that many college students spend, this is going to truly seem like a bargain. As students continue to look for careers that are going to cost them less money up front, ethical hacking might start to become more and more appealing to the technically gifted.

Ethical hacking is also going to offer people plenty of job security. These sorts of specialized skills are going to demand at least an intermediate level of expertise that a lot of people will never have. Organizations are going to need ethical hackers to test their systems in order to find different flaws and weaknesses, and this is a need that is only going to become more and more pronounced as society becomes more dependent on various information systems. Ethical hackers have been some of the best advisers that developers can have on their teams. As long as workers earn the right ethical hacking certifications, they should have long and solid careers ahead of them.

The CEH certification cost is minor compared to many of the qualifications that people are going to need otherwise for many different fields. The Certified Ethical Hacker exam itself is going to cost around five hundred dollars to take. Ultimately, the people who take every official ethical hacking course through the EC-Council are going to spend slightly less than the self-study students, but independent learning might still be better for some people involved.

In order to earn the ethical hacking certification for the self-study students, it’s important to pay an additional one hundred dollars in application fees. Self-study students who want to wave this part of ethical hacking training are also going to have to demonstrate their proven experience in the field. They are going to need to show that they have at least two years of experience in information security related work, and they will need to have an employer sign off on that work experience.

Ideally, the employer should be someone who is part of a large corporation and not someone who hired the ethical hacker for a more minor job. Essentially, the self-study students are trading some of their ethical hacking course training for on-the-job training and learning through their formal paid work. The organizations in charge of certified ethical hacking are aware of the fact that it is inefficient to require people who are already skilled hackers to take basic ethical hacking courses through them again, but people have to prove that they are already skilled ethical hackers first.
